MSO Book Week Day 3: Earth Day

MSO Book Week

April 20-24, 2015

The first ever MSO Book Week concluded last Friday, amidst a great deal of bookish enthusiasm. It was a week filled with books, Mystery Readers and excitement. There were costumes, there was food and–yes–there was Plenty of Reading.

This year, MSO Book Week overlapped with a very important holiday: Earth Day. We here at Montessori School of Ojai took this as an excellent opportunity to incorporate the two by making Wednesday’s theme Books About Nature.

Our Mystery Reader was none other than Mr. Tod Cossairt, Director of Sustainability at Besant Hill School. And okay, yes, he’s also my father. However, his profession (and passion) made him the perfect candidate for the day’s topic. Digging deep into his own interests, Tod shared the following titles:

Tod Reading Earth DayOf course, having read Peggy Christian’s If You Find a Rock, there was nothing left but for us to present the Big Side with rocks of their own…

Students also made Earth Day Posters:

We finished the day with a look through two spectacular books about Andy Goldsworthy’s Nature Art:

And made our own:

All in all, a pretty good Earth Day. Did you enjoy yours?
